National Human Rights Commission
Gabon ratified the OPCAT in September 2010 and spent many years considering the establishment of a new specialised institution as NPM. After these discussions reached an impasse, a decision was taken to designate the National Human Rights Commission as NPM. A new law to this effect was passed on the 21st of November 2024.
The Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture visited Gabon in December 2013. The SPT visit report was made public. The SPT visited Gabon for a second time in March 2024.
